The Modus Toolkit

No one builds a house out of tools, but you must have tools to build a house.

After over 100 clients and dealing with different org structures, cultures, personalities, issues, and opportunities, we have amassed an effective toolkit.  These tools are not magic hammers.  They don't build on their own.  But, they can be used effectively.  This is not our complete toolkit, but it does give an idea of where we focus our attention and how we will engage with you.

Toolkit 1 - Alignment, values & clarity

Improvement relies on the alignment of the people doing the improving. They need to know what they are improving, why they are improving it, and how their skills aid in the improvement.  They need to know what their colleagues will be doing. How they will help each other.  Without this, improvement is just mindless productivity. (Work for the sake of looking busy).

Tools in this kit include affinity mapping, Lean Coffees, team charters, and communications plans.

Toolkit 2 - Real time feedback

No real-time feedback, no real understanding. Traditional management metrics are lagging indicators. They are like managing driving with eyes closed, opening occasionally to see if you've hit something. Real-time feedback allows everyone involved to understand how work is being done, who is responsible for what, which opportunities are being realized, and when collaboration (help) is necessary. Real-time feedback also shows what needs to be improved, what needs to be highlighted, and how successful we are truly being.

Tools in this kit include value stream mapping, Personal Kanban, working sessions, one-on-ones, and huddles.

toolkit 3 - Operations in the real world

Work with change or it will work against you. Teams and companies need to do more than react to change, they need to incorporate the opportunities from change into their daily work. These tools help understand change, spot improvement or other opportunities, and experiment in thoughtful ways.

Tools in this kit include PDSA, System of Profound Knowledge, Cynefin, A3s, the Modus Complex Problem Solving Method, Learning Sessions, Go and Sees, Peer Reviews, and Collaborative Working.
